This holiday was officially included in the calendar by government decree in 2020 in honor of the birthday of the great poet, educator, and thinker Abai Kunanbaev. The purpose and significance of the holiday are to promote Abai's legacy, popularize his poems and words of edification among young people, and introduce Kazakh literature and culture to the world. This year marks the 181st anniversary of Abai Kunanbaev's birth.

In honor of the holiday, literary and musical evenings, forums, book exhibitions, theatrical performances, creative competitions, intellectual games, and other events are organized.

Today is International Biofuel Day. On this day, biodiesel was first used. The engine ran on peanut oil.

Also today is Fair Wind Day. This unofficial holiday is celebrated by travelers, yachtsmen, and owners of sailing vessels. This day can be celebrated by organizing various competitions on sailboats, yachts, motorboats, and other watercraft.
